Full reset.
I’ve only had this laptop for a few months, and already it’s fucked up beyond belief. It crashes regularly if I allow my favorite screensaver to run… With the infernal Blue Screen of Death. Furthermore, it has developed some sort of a “memory leak”, where if I browse more than 9 websites at a time, I have to restart the pc afterwards in order to reset the memory. And...

The Dead Sea
I neglected to tell you about one of the other world wonders I experienced while visiting Israel this summer. No, it’s not one of the accredited 7, not even 7 natural wonders, but it’s definitely up there high on the list. Maybe top 20? I’m rambling. My point is this - I got to experience the Dead Sea. Incidentally, besides being damn salty, it’s 420m below sea level (the...

Norwegian Grafitti
The talented and sweet Lise walked around in her town today, snapping pictures of grafitti with her phone. These are her photographs of insanely cool Norwegian grafitti. Damn. They do everything better than us. ;) Click to enlarge The green text says “On a 3-dimensional color monitor I see the world. In the picture it says: SYNTAX ERROR.”

Cabling boxes
Scattered throughout Israel were these decorated boxes. Many of them belonged to the cable tv company HOT, but others were not. It seems as though they comissioned or allowed various artists (or students?) to paint the boxes in an effort to beautify the area. Not all were even as pretty as these (which I must say have a certain naivistic feel to them), but I saw none with any grafitti or...

Doors
I’ve started collecting doors in their natural environments! Here are a few mostly Israeli doors, and a stray Hungarian one. Click on the picture for a larger version.

Flights of Fancy - paper art
I just found this absolutely wonderful artwork waiting in the CRAFT magazine. It’s by a fellow called Jayme McGowan, and I’ve not seen anything quite like it. It reminds me a little of the dream sequences in The Science of Sleep because it shares similar “magical” qualities. more pictures in: small magazine the artist’s blog (even more pics!): Roadside projects...

Grafitti
Usually, when I walk around and see grafitti in Finland, it’s done with a big permanent marker and says text like “FUK U! I RULZ!” or is something illegible, ugly, and uninteresting made with black spraypaint. This seems to be different in Hungary. That is not to say that you still get the ugly spraypaint grafitti, the likes of cryptic text defacing some otherwise beautiful...

Petra
The most amazing part of my trip to Southern Israel was the day we slipped over the border to Jordan to see Petra. For those even more ignorant than myself who haven’t a clue what this Petra-thingy is, it’s that really cool place where Indiana Jones goes to find the Holy Grail. And yes, it is one of the seven wonders of the world, not just a movie prop. But I’m jumping ahead of...

Eric Carle tissue paper tutorials
For anyone who has ever fallen in love with Eric Carle’s beautifully illustrated childrens books and wondered how he does it, I’ve found just the site to solve the mystery. Not so strangely, it is his very own official website. But strangely enough for a big, famous illustrator, he offers tutorials on how he creates his stunning pieces of art.In easy to follow slideshows, he presents...

If you thought normal taxes were bad...
I apologize. I am about to go on a rant about what might possibly be the most confusing, boring subject int he world - the world of taxes. I have just entered the controversial world of VAT. Not just VAT in general, but VAT between EU-countries. Far worse, VAT paid on electronic services. I just emailed my friendly local tax office asking a series of bewildering questions. It seems that...

My mother's necklace
I made this a while ago for my mother’s 60th birthday. It has copper wire, leather, polished shells, green glass leaf beads, and little seed beads. She seemed to like it… :)

Alternate ways of posting
I really love the customizability of tumblr. I’m only just now beginning to discover how much you can actually do with it, and how many ways you can even post to it. First, there’s the normal “go to blog page, add entry”. Traditional, boring, but it works. Secondly, you can send emails or text messages to your blog and post without ever touching a pc (if you do it via your...

My First Jewish Wedding
I finally saw my first Jewish wedding. My parents went to one long ago back when we lived in New York, and had regaled me with such tales of splendor that I began wanting to experience one myself. Yesterday night, we began the long drive from Northern Israel to what one might ordinarily call a “god-forsaken place in the middle of nowhere”, except it certainly wasn’t god-forsaken...

I must be going senile.
I just spent half an hour composing an entry that I already wrote two weeks ago. And now I only have half an hour before I’m off to see my first Jewish wedding. I jumped onto the chrome-wagon and am currently using google’s new browser. Being very satisfied with Firefox, I was sceptical to try it, but some cool-looking graphs showing all sorts of statistics that I know nothing about...

A little more shit.
The day after I wrote about my wonderful experiences with diahrrea (WOW.. I think that’s the first time in my life I spelled it right without having to look it up…) and how much better I was feeling having had a nearly solid shit, things went back to squelchy mode. In fact, I spent most of the vacation at the Dead Sea and the Red Sea suffering, groaning, and squelching. Don’t...

Grandpa's bucket.
I dreamt of grandpa. Well, to be fair, I also dreamt of pirates taking over a cruiseboat using a cunning plan that only I saw through but people refused to believe when I warned them not to trust the pirates…. BUT. I dreamt of grandpa. He was in the garage where he used to keep his car. He was making a good old-fashioned wooden sauna bucket. His hands shook, like always (he could barely...
